At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday night, including six juveniles, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, close to the university's Bragg Memorial Stadium. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence E. Revell said preliminary information indicated a physical altercation occurred before the shooting.

Authorities described the altercation as an isolated incident involving two or three individuals. Of the 12 known victims, six are adults and six are juveniles. The youngest victim was 11 years old, according to Revell.

One victim was in critical condition, two others were seriously injured and eight were listed in stable condition, police said. The university said the campus remained safe and urged people to avoid the area.

Police response and investigation

The Tallahassee Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting as detectives work to identify those responsible. No arrests had been announced as of the latest police update.

Revell also praised his officers for their actions in the moments immediately following the shooting. He said they put their own safety at risk to carry victims to safety and transport them to the hospital.
