Trump announces Audi will build $4 billion factory in US
US President Donald Trump announced that German car producer Audi will build a $4 billion assembly plant in Georgia, producing 200,000 SUVs annually.
The announcement came during a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, where Trump emphasized the economic benefits of the new facility. 'Think of that. 200,000 cars a year. That's incredible,' Trump said.
Tariff Impact
The US president credited his tariff policies for Audi's decision to build the plant in the US. Last year, Trump's tariffs cost Audi €1.2 billion ($1.4 billion).
Think of that. 200,000 cars a year. That's incredible.
Election Timing
The announcement comes as Trump makes a last-ditch effort to boost Republican candidates in the battleground state by fulfilling his promise to reinvigorate American manufacturing before the midterm elections.
Republicans face potential losses in the November 3 vote amid rising prices and the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Production Details
Audi, owned by Volkswagen, confirmed construction will begin next year with car production starting in the early 2030s. The plant will assemble the Audi Q7, Q8 and Q9 SUVs.
The investment is expected to create approximately 4,500 jobs in Georgia.
