Ukrainian attacks on Saturday caused water and power cuts in Russian-occupied Crimea and killed at least three people in the Kharkiv region, while the UK and France launched a major joint military exercise.

Ukrainian drones struck Russian-occupied Crimea on Saturday, causing water and power cuts for millions of people on the peninsula.

Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-installed head of Crimea, reported on Telegram that restrictions had been put in place for the supply of electricity and water.

Separate Ukrainian attacks in the Kharkiv region killed at least three people, while Russian drone and missile strikes in eastern Ukraine killed at least five.

Drone attacks across Russia

Drones rained down across Russia overnight, with the country’s defence ministry saying 616 were shot down in more than 20 regions.

During the day, drones hit the Bryansk border region, killing at least three people, according to acting governor Yegor Kovalchuc.

In Ukraine, a drone strike on the town of Synelnykove killed three people and wounded at least 12, while a drone hit a farm in Sumy, killing a 31-year-old woman and injuring four others.

UK and France launch joint exercise

Thousands of British and French troops have taken part in a seven-week military training exercise in Germany, called Rhino Titan.

About 2,500 troops were involved, including 600 British and French paratroopers who dropped from RAF A400M Atlas transport aircraft.

The threats we face in the 21st century require an updated, modern approach to warfare – and our adaptable armed forces are preparing accordingly.

Ukraine’s military has a stable connection to Starlink, the satellite communications system, the Ukrainian government said on Sunday.

This came 10 days after its ability to use the system was suddenly restricted.

Hours later, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk accused the Ukrainian military of violating the company’s terms, with neither Musk nor the US government taking responsibility for the curbs.

Elections in Bulgaria

Bulgarians will vote in presidential elections on Sunday, with polls placing acting president Iliana Iotova and ex-caretaker prime minister Andrey Gyurov as leaders.

The vote has taken on added significance after a series of drone attacks on merchant ships off Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast that likely killed about two-dozen international seafarers.
