A stolen Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card from a £370,000 shipment has been spotted on the Brazilian secondhand market, identified by its visible serial number.

On September 20, a shipment worth R$ 2,500,000 (£370,000) containing two pallets of Zotac RTX 5090 cards was registered with Brazilian customs. The shipment, imported from the US by IT distributor Oderço, later went missing from the airport. Investigators believe two outsourced forklift operators removed the pallets, with a third employee allegedly helping them bypass electronic controls.

Card Identified

This week, one of the missing Zotac RTX 5090 Solid OC cards appeared on the Brazilian marketplace OLX, listed at R$ 32,000 (£4,739). The card was identified thanks to its visible serial number in listing photos, which matched those of the stolen cargo. Despite this evidence, the seller hasn't been identified, and the listing has since been removed.

High Demand Fuels Theft

The high value of these graphics cards reflects the intense demand for AI compute capabilities. Recent reports indicate the RTX 5090 is effectively discontinued, with the incoming RTX 5080 Super rumored to be priced around $2,999. This market value has apparently made some willing to risk prison for these components.

Police continue their investigation with three suspects identified. Buyers of stolen GPUs may face issues when attempting to register for warranty or RMA services with the manufacturer, potentially discovering the deception too late.
