Capcom, the developer of popular games like Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter, has confirmed a significant data breach impacting more than 11.7 million Capcom ID accounts. The company posted a notice on Thursday revealing that customer information was accessed by an unauthorized third party.
Capcom Co., Ltd. has determined that certain customer information associated with CAPCOM ID, an online membership account service operated by the company, was subject to unauthorized access by a third party.
The breach was first detected on October 19 when Capcom noticed suspicious activity. The company immediately began blocking access and launched an investigation, which revealed that approximately 11,774,247 accounts were compromised.
Exposed Information
The exposed data includes email addresses, account creation dates, login counts, last login timestamps, and IP addresses used for the most recent login. Among the affected accounts, 43 had their date of birth, gender, country/region, and nickname compromised, while 196 experienced unauthorized password changes.
Capcom has already reset the passwords for the 196 accounts with unauthorized changes. The company has found no evidence that the original passwords were leaked, and it appears that Capcom's games were not affected by the breach.
