Sensor Tower estimates GTA 6 has pulled in $630 million from pre-orders ahead of launch - eGamers.io
Grand Theft Auto 6 has reportedly generated $630 million from pre-orders despite not being available yet, with 6.45 million copies ordered across PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
The estimate comes from analytics firm Sensor Tower, which puts pre-orders at 6.45 million across both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X platforms. Neither Rockstar Games nor its parent company Take-Two Interactive has confirmed these figures, making it a third-party assessment rather than an official count.
PlayStation leads sales
Sony's console holds a significant advantage in pre-order numbers. According to Sensor Tower, 74% of pre-orders are for PS5, while Xbox accounts for 26%. This translates to approximately 4.8 million PS5 copies worth $468 million, compared to 1.66 million Xbox copies valued at $162 million.
CEO calls performance unprecedented
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described the game's pre-order performance as "exceptional" during the Q1 FY2027 earnings call in August. He later told CNBC that pre-orders exceeded expectations, noting that demand for the $100 Ultimate Edition was particularly strong.
Record-breaking launch week predicted
Market research firm Newzoo reported that GTA 6 had the strongest opening week of any pre-order campaign, generating $180 million in its first week. The firm projects worldwide first-week revenue could reach between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion, potentially setting another industry record.
Marketing reaches Miami
Rockstar's marketing campaign has extended to Miami, the real-life inspiration for Vice City. Fans have spotted themed Metrorail pillars, a Burger Shot advertisement, and a Vice City sign in Wynwood, with sightings credited to TK/Pierce Tetlow and Benji RR.
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles, with pre-orders currently available through digital storefronts.
