Russell Brand raped woman even though she screamed in pain, court hears
A woman told her mother that Russell Brand raped her and didn't stop even when she screamed in pain, Southwark crown court has heard.
The woman also told a colleague she was "bleeding everywhere" and Brand shouted at her, saying: "Look what you've done to my fucking sheets." She reported the alleged incident to her parents, friends, boyfriend and a sexual health nurse shortly after it allegedly occurred in early 2009.
Alleged Attack Details
The woman alleges Brand anally raped her at his London townhouse after picking her out from a crowd at one of his stand-up performances at the Hammersmith Apollo. She claims they had consensual vaginal sex before the comedian "flipped" her over and raped her.
If you see me out in the foyer and you think 'I really fancy him and would like to have sex with him, but I can't because it is Russell Brand', you probably can … my age range is from 16 to death.
Victim's Fear of Reporting
Several people encouraged her to go to the police but she feared she would not be believed. "They won't believe me. I went to his house," the woman reportedly said. A friend recalled that the alleged victim "felt it wasn't worth it" and "didn't think she would be believed."
Multiple Witnesses Testify
The court heard testimony from 24 witnesses connected to the woman. Her parents said their daughter had confided in them shortly after the alleged attack and feared she had contracted HIV. A friend who had accompanied her to the gig provided detailed testimony about the alleged incident.
She described that he got aggressive and pushed her down on the bed and she couldn't breathe and she was trying to say stop because it was hurting her. I said: 'Did you stay stop?' and she said: 'Yes, multiple times.'
Brand's Defense
Brand faces three charges of rape, three of sexual assault and one of indecent assault against six women, in allegations spanning 10 years from 1999. The 51-year-old denies all the charges and has pleaded not guilty. The trial continues with more witnesses expected to testify.
