AMD’s Leaked Zen 6 APU Packs 6 Cores And 24 GB LPDDR5 At 9600 MT/s; Could Possibly Power Next-Gen Steam Deck - Wccftech
An unreleased AMD engineering sample featuring 6 cores, 12 threads, and 24GB LPDDR5 memory has appeared in benchmark results, potentially powering the next-generation Steam Deck.
The mysterious processor, part number "100-000001930-12_Y", was tested on an AMD GBR-FF6-SKT validation platform and runs at 2.4 GHz. Its memory configuration includes 4x 6GB SK Hynix modules, totaling 24GB of LPDDR5 memory operating at 9600 MT/s.
Performance Upgrade
These specifications represent a substantial upgrade over the current Steam Deck, which uses a Zen 2-based APU with only four CPU cores and 16GB of LPDDR5 memory clocked at 6400 MT/s. The new chip's microcode revision corresponds to AMD Family 1Ah, model DCh, which has been associated with the Zen 6 microarchitecture.
These numbers show a substantial upgrade over the current Steam Deck configuration... So, the new chip is a significant upgrade, which could bring a substantial performance boost in gaming.
Benchmark Results
In GpuTest benchmarks conducted on Ubuntu 24.04 at 1024 x 768 resolution, the sample scored 3,871 points in GiMark, 3,508 in FurMark, and 9,319 points in TessMark. However, the chip's power limits, cooling solution, and integrated GPU configuration remain unknown.
