‘It doesn’t look good’: Arteta concerned as Saka limps off against Bayern Munich
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed concern after Bukayo Saka limped off with a quad injury during a 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich.
Saka’s injury cast a shadow over a hard-fought point for Arsenal, who had led through substitute Eberechi Eze before Harry Kane’s penalty and a goal for Alphonso Davies turned the game around.
The England international collapsed after a routine battle with Davies and required treatment before walking off slowly, with Arteta noting he was moving in a very limited way as he left the stadium.
Arteta pointed to the relentless intensity of the Champions League, referencing the PSG-Barcelona game earlier in the week where players were constantly engaged in man-to-man duels with no respite.
The Arsenal boss was proud of his team’s response after Saka’s setback, with Declan Rice scoring a deserved equaliser in the 82nd minute to secure a point.
Arteta insisted that Arsenal were the better team in the first 25 minutes and had dominated the match, but the injury to Saka was a significant blow to their hopes of victory.
The draw leaves Arsenal with a point from their trip to Germany, but the focus now shifts to assessing the extent of Saka’s injury and determining the next step for the forward.
