Marvel's Wolverine in 4K delivers up to 25 FPS Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080 via PS5 emulator - GameGPU
The KytyPS5 emulator runs Marvel's Wolverine at a base range of 6 to 25 frames per second on a high-end PC, far below the console's stable 60 FPS.
Enthusiasts have conducted new benchmarks of Marvel's Wolverine in 4K resolution using the KytyPS5 emulator to evaluate frame rate changes after several weeks of development. A powerful CPU-based benchmark configuration was used for testing, featuring an overclocked NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, a 32 GB DDR5 RAM system, and a 1000W power supply.
On the original PlayStation 5, the game runs at 60 frames per second with ray tracing enabled in performance mode and supports enhanced smoothness on variable refresh rate displays. However, on the personal computer using the current version of the emulator, the game delivers extremely unstable frame rates, remaining in the base range of 6 to 25 frames per second.
During dynamic battles with groups of enemies and while effects are loading, the 1% Low rate regularly drops to 1 frame per second, causing significant image lag. The frame rate fluctuates continuously depending on the scene's intensity, with performance dropping to 7-9 frames per second in open areas with dense vegetation and explosions.
In relatively uncluttered sequences and when showing specific character angles, the frame rate rises to 15-20 frames per second. Only in isolated cutscenes does the frame rate briefly register between 25 and 29 frames per second, but in actual gameplay, the average frame rate remains too low for comfortable control.
The computer's system resources are underutilized during this process, with the graphics card utilized only 8-76% and the processor at an average of 15-30%. This behavior indicates that performance is limited by the internal instruction translation algorithms and the Vulkan graphics API, so replacing the video card with a more powerful one practically does not increase the final number of frames.
Community reaction
The player community is divided on the results demonstrated. Some participants note a definite step forward, recalling that in the very early stages, the game ran at 1-2 frames per second, while the current 11-15 frames per second in combat demonstrates overall progress in development.
Other commentators point to a slowdown in optimization progress for this title, indicating that the developers' attention has shifted to other projects like Astro Bot or Demon's Souls.
Nevertheless, players continue to closely monitor every frame rate increase, viewing the optimization of complex modern console action games as an important test of emulators' readiness for future major releases.
