The Alabama Board of Nursing has launched a new licensing renewal website following a cyberattack on its systems. A board spokesperson announced that individuals renewing a single-state license can now access the new platform.
System taken offline in August
The board first noticed suspicious activity in its system during August. A forensic investigation confirmed malicious activity within portions of the board's technology environment as of September 1.
Investigators determined that some data was collected and downloaded. The board stated that prompt containment actions prevented the ransomware attack from further escalating.
In compliance with state security protocols, the board took the affected systems offline. Online renewals were suspended, and applications were processed only through paper methods during the breach.
New site to add more applications
The board confirmed that additional applications will be added to the new website as they become available. The transition to the new platform represents the board's response to the security incident.
