Stop & Shop restores app, website after cybersecurity breach - Yahoo
Stop & Shop has restored its website and app after a cybersecurity breach forced them offline last week, with the company confirming services are back online for customers.
The grocery chain's online services, including delivery and pickup orders, were fully restored by Tuesday, according to a company spokesperson. The outage lasted several days before the company was able to bring its digital platforms back online.
Customer compensation
During the outage, Stop & Shop offered customers a 10% discount on purchases, valid from October 16-22. The discount could be worth up to $10, requiring a minimum spend of $100 to receive the full benefit.
No data breach
Despite the disruption, Stop & Shop President Roger Wheeler confirmed that stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations remained operational throughout the incident. He emphasized that there was no evidence of customer credit card information or other data being exposed.
We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused by this temporary outage of Stop & Shop's app and website.
Parent company response
The cybersecurity issue was discovered by Stop & Shop's Dutch parent company, Ahold Delhaize, which took some systems offline as a protective measure. The company enlisted outside cybersecurity experts to investigate and help restore services, with disruptions varying across grocery chains in the US and Europe.
