The new DLSS 5 model increased FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 from 53 to 73 FPS on RTX 4070 Laptop - GameGPU
NVIDIA's updated DLSS 5 model increased frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077 by over 35% on an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.
TripGad Gaming has published a detailed comparative benchmark of the updated and previous DLSS 5 algorithm models with Multi Pass enabled in the action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077. Tests were conducted on a mobile platform with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, for which the base GPU limit TGP 140 W is set in the injector window.
Comparative runs in identical Night City locations revealed a noticeable advantage of the optimized model over the old version at a 2x DLSS 5 scaling factor. In static shots and during leisurely exploration of city blocks, the old model delivered a frame rate of 53-56 FPS with a power consumption of approximately 180-195 W.
Switching to the updated model in the same scenes increased the frame rate to a stable 73-76 FPS with comparable power consumption of 175-185 W. In dynamic shootouts with numerous special effects, destruction, and sparks, the frame rate on the old model dropped to 51-53 FPS, while the optimized algorithm reliably maintained the bar at 70-73 FPS.
Eliminating rendering bottlenecks
Our measurements confirm that the optimization of generative AI algorithms makes the advanced Multi Pass mode fully suitable for all-day gaming on modern graphics chips without critical drops in rendering speed.
The new model not only dramatically increases frame rates but also demonstrates increased stability for fine meshes, wires, and complex polygonal objects, eliminating ghosting and flickering on high-contrast edges. DLSS 5's modernization of its neural network weights and computational graphs has completely eliminated rendering bottlenecks that arose during heavy Multi-Pass calculations.
